Larry McCauley Association of the Year Award
(The Larry McCauley Association of the Year Award is given to a volunteer grassroots association that has demonstrated the characteristics that defined Larry’s service to the youth of New York. Associations recognized for this honor have displayed integrity, passion and dedication to providing and promoting opportunities for all youth in their local communities.)
Oswego Minor Hockey Association
The Oswego Minor Hockey Association was founded in 1964 and was housed in the old Romney Field House at Oswego State. In 1967, Oswego High School fielded its first boys’ team under head coach Jim McAllister. That year, the city of Oswego opened the James P. Cullinan Rink, giving OMHA a second rink from which to run its programs.
By 1975, the city had built another rink at Fort Ontario, giving local skaters three rinks. The additional rink helped spur registration to grow to more than 300 players.
In 1983, Oswego captured the first of six New York State championships at the Tier II level.
The organization hosted teams from the Soviet Union at the Oswego Power Play Invitational Tournament in 1997. Three years later, Oswego hosted the USA Hockey Tier II National Tournament at the 12U level.
Oswego transitioned to a Tier III organization in 2018, and in 2024 won its first Tier III state title at 16U.
